Always “On the Go”, John has a reputation of always working hard and respecting everyone he comes in contact with. He grew up in Alpena, started working at the age of 12, achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in the BSA and attended Alpena High School playing three sports. Played 4 years of varsity basketball at Hillsdale College where he graduated with a B.S. degree in Business Administration. After a few years in California, Nevada and South America he returned home to work in his father’s business which is when he met his wife of 40 years. They branched out and opened their own retail gift & engraving store. To improve their store they teamed up with Alpena Area Chamber of Commerce to secure the City of Alpena’s first Small City Block Grant and created “Old Town Alpena”. To achieve that feat they developed, build and designed Alpena’s Oldest Historical Restaurant which has been written up in the Detroit Free Press and several other Michigan boating and travel magazines along with a whole chapter in the book “Haunted Travels Of Michigan. John has also coached 7th & 8th grade basketball, served as vice president of Thunder Bay Theatre, secretary of Alpena’s Downtown Merchant’s Association.
